I’m delighted to announce that the Forum has just opened a Readings in Language section. Its offerings range from light and humorous to serious and scholarly articles on reading, writing, listening, and speaking as well as on language teaching and learning.
The selection for its maiden edition consists of five thought-provoking articles: the first lamenting the lost art of handwriting, the second decrying the increasing “ambiguity, dissembling, and mindlessness” of the English language, the third examining the reasons for the dramatic decline of English departments in US universities, the fourth reporting the good news that fuzzy language is finally disappearing from computer marketing pitches, and the fifth wondering humorously about the many oddities of the English language.
