Sir, do this news headline confusing, "Hostage-taker, policeman killed"?

The news headline "Hostage-taker, policeman killed" is actually not confusing at all. It's just a severely space-constrained shorthand statement that says the hostage-taker was killed by the responding cop who was himself killed when the hostage-taker later stabbed him with a knife at the police station.
