Which is correct: "go inside" or "get inside"?
« on: December 19, 2020, 09:14:00 PM »
I have a 3-year old neighbor who's being the source of joy of everyone in our compound. Whenever he starts getting naughty, though, one of my neighbors would admonish him and say that he "go inside" their house. My mother maintains -- privately to me -- however, that it it should be "get inside." Should I have debated with her about that, Sir?

Thank you.

No need to debate with your Mom, Miss Mae. If the boy gets naughty inside the housing compound but outside his family's home, the correct way for any of the neighbors to admonish him from being naughty is to tell him "Go home!", not "Go inside!" nor "Get inside!" When he's outside his own family's house and it's a member of his own family inside their own house who admonishes him to stop being naughty, the right thing to say is "Get inside!" and not "Go inside!"
