Was and Were ?
« on: July 22, 2016, 11:27:26 AM »
Hi,

When to use was?

And when to use were?

Also, show a good example scenario for each.

Thanks in advance

Hi solid9,

I have come across this posting of yours while randomly reading topics in this forum. Have you found the answer to this query? If not, let me try my best to explain to you the usage of was and were.

"Was" is used with singular subjects; whereas "were" is used with plural subject.

See examples below:

She was not happy with the result of her examination.
My children were sleeping when the incident happened.
Martha and I were at the party last night.

Hope this helps you.

           Singular            is, has           was, had
           Plural                are, have       were, had
