Title: Get ready for those English proficiency tests!
Post by: Joe Carillo on October 24, 2009, 11:39:44 PM
Starting this week’s edition, the Forum is running a new section, “Preparing for English Proficiency Tests,” for the benefit of those preparing to take the TOEIC, TOEFL, IELTS, or similar tests as required by prospective employers or for admission to college or graduate school. Every week, the Forum will present a new set of practice tests in four of the most commonly measured areas of English-proficiency: vocabulary, grammar, syntax, and reading comprehension. Read the overview to the new section now. After that, simply click the link to the practice tests for the week and you can start testing yourself.

Hi Jose,

First, thank you for your great site on English proficiency.  Like you, I manage a forum for the same subject at www.aiepro.org (http://www.aiepro.org).  It will be great to visit this site often so that I can have many more ideas to help my students or clients.

Second, I have one of your books, English Plain and Simple.  I haven't finished it yet.  I believe my colleague, Neysa, has already contacted you about it.

Finally, I would like to discuss your topic here on these standardized tests, namely TOEFL and IELTS.  It is my understanding that the four most commonly measured areas of English-proficiency are speaking, listening, writing, and reading.  To measure these key areas, examiners will focus on vocabulary, grammar, syntax, structure, and content.

Thank you for this wonderful site.  I look forward to visiting often to get new ideas.  It would be great to meet with you someday as well.
