Are these two "based on" and "based from" interchangeable, if not, which is correct? When do we use "based on" and based from"?

Use and Misuse / Is this an elliptical sentence?
« on: July 30, 2010, 02:05:46 AM »
On how serious the mistakes are, or whether you are free to correct them, or your mood, or something?

Is this an elliptical sentence? Why? What is an elliptical sentence? What kind of sentence is the statement above? Thanks.

Can we use "watch out" and "look out" interchangeably? Which situations can we use them? Can we say, "look out" or "watch out" to a person who is about to cross the road when there is a car approaching?

Please explain the following statement below and write it into plain and simple English if you can. Thanks.

"The buliding area of one school of MOE school construction project is 5541.12m2, among which the building area of single teaching building with three-story frame structure is 4716.22m2,the buliding area of single one-story gym with sphere structure roof with is 842.9m2."

"These two words, however, are simply intensifiers of the adjective "clever," and the dictionary assumes they are already understood as such by the reader. As a matter of style by the dictionary, therefore, these intensifiers no longer get separate entries with definitions nor are mentioned in the definition of the source word itself."

I got it, sir! Thanks!

Why are there no such words like "cleverer and cleverest" in the Merriam-Webster's Dictionary?

Sir, Joe!

Why do we say "Master of Ceremonies" and not "Master of Ceremony"?

This is what I got from the Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary:

Main Entry: master of ceremonies
Date: circa 1610

1 : a person who determines the forms to be observed on a public occasion
2 : a person who acts as host at a formal event
3 : a person who acts as host for a program of entertainment (as on television)

Is it because of the number one definition which says,  "a person who determines the forms to be observed on a public occasion"?

Sir, Joe! Can we use the pronouns "he," "she," "him," and "her" to animals instead of "it"? We were taught to just use the pronoun "it" to refer to animals before.  ???

I think telling all Filipinos to stop using Taglish isn't an easy task to implement :o. But of course, this will only happen when we start doing so from ourselves.  ;)
