If you are a college freshman, what do you do if you if your own English professor requires as must-reading an English-usage book he or she had coauthored, but it’s one that’s blind to the semantic difference between “borrowing” and “lending,” then asks an absurd True-or-False question and answers it wrongly? A Forum member, Kuyerjudd, had such an experience recently and asked me if it’s OK to burn that book.
