Lest the Forum be accused of being insensitive by just focusing on grammar even during the run-up to the Philippine national elections, I am taking a 10-day respite from my regular critiques of media’s grammar errors. Instead, from today until the actual voting on May 10, I’ll be doing a media coverage watch focusing on the language of the election protagonists as well as the language of the print media’s reportage of the poll campaign. For starters, I have posted “Lost in paraphrase, lost in translation,” an essay that I wrote for my weekly column in the May 1, 2010 of
The Manila Times.
