Use and Misuse / Re: Regarding with
« on: May 23, 2022, 03:30:54 PM »
Hi Joe,

Thank you so much.

About myself, well ...

I have been working in the BPO industry for nearly 13 years now. I am still with my currently company and I have been working with them for nearly 10 years. The other three years was with a different company. My 10th year will be on August 30 of this year.

Three years ago, aside from working as an Operations Manager, I was also working with the training department and was handling training too. I had several grammar questions and did not know exactly how to explain grammatical errors. That was the reason why I was active in the forum. However, I was asked to focus on the operations and stopped handling training.

Recently, I was asked to handle training again.
Our President just recently started a new department which is Learning and Development.
I am one of the four people who are currently working on launching this new department.

Hi,

Could you please help me explain why is it incorrect to say "regarding with"?

I kept on hearing some people say, "regarding with your concern".

Use and Misuse / a couple of times OR a couple times
« on: May 24, 2019, 01:09:38 AM »
Hello,

Which these two is grammatically correct - "a couple of times" or "a couple times"?

I was researching topics for my training and I read a sample sentence. The sentence is, "I like to go on a walk a couple times a week."

I am confused because that is an article about grammar and I thought it should be "a couple of times."

Please help me clarify this.

Thank you.

Use and Misuse / Subjunctive Verb
« on: January 01, 2018, 03:05:25 PM »
Hi Joe,

I just want to know if the subjunctive verb is still strictly used today or not anymore.

"I wish I were a butterfly" is certainly subjunctive, but would it be fine if someone can just say "I wish I was a butterfly"?

Thank you in advance.

You Asked Me This Question / Re: count and non-count nouns

Hello Joe Carillo,

May I know if the word "percent" a countable noun or not?
Someone asked me if 10% is a countable noun and I really cannot answer it correctly.
How about the word hundred or thousand or million?
For example, we say, "I counted to three hundred last night." We don't say, "I counted to three hundreds." I know that we say "20% of the computers are old" and "20% of the chairs are made of wood" but then we are dealing with the computers and the chairs.

Please enlighten me.
Thank you so much in advance.

Hello,

Please observe the sentence below.

"We are at the hospital to visit a friend who is in the hospital."

What is the difference between "at the hospital" and "in the hospital"?

You Asked Me This Question / In using phonetics
« on: September 02, 2014, 12:02:17 AM »
Hi Jose Carillo,

I am working in a call center and when our callers ask us to spell out something, we usually use phonetics.

Question: Is it correct to say "A for Apple" or should it be "A as in Apple"?

I am not so sure but I think I remember one of our Communications Analysts before told us that it should be "A for Apple" and not "A as in Apple".

Please clarify this.

Thank you in advance.
