Ed Manuel Song, who asked the question on the “motherland”/”fatherland” conundrum in an earlier posting, sent me a YouTube link yesterday to a video of him reciting from memory Jose Rizal’s “Mi Ultimo Adios” in the original Spanish. This was on the occasion of Rizal’s birth anniversary celebration in Pinole, Calfornia.

The video link was accompanied by this note from Ed: “I hope to be able to recite “A la juventud Filipina” some day and [also] post it on YouTube.”

Wow, so that's how this poem is read...

Although...I'm not really good with Spanish (my Spanish is very limited), so I looked up an English translation.

I thought I'd share the English translation here.

My Last Farewell
By Jose P. Rizal
Translated from the original Spanish by Charles Derbyshire

Enjoy!
