Coming and going

Joe,

I notice that you use the phrase (in relation to publications) "gone off the press".   Is this a Filipino variation?    Most Anglo-Saxons would say "come off the press" or, colloquially, "rolled off the press".

The usual expression used in the Philippines--and which I personally prefer--is "went off the press" in the simple past tense, and "had come off the press" in the past perfect. If I did use "gone off the press" sometime, it really wouldn't be in character for me; indeed, it would be a slip of the mind. And I agree with you that "rolled off the press" is a good equivalent colloquial expression and that I often use myself. Let me know precisely where I erred in the usage and I'll quickly correct it. Thanks!
