My friend Isabel Escoda e-mailed me this note from Hong Kong today:

Joe, you’ll be interested to learn that the South China Morning Post (Hong Kong’s main English-language paper) yesterday had as its top story “Manila police have no trained negotiators” by Raissa Robles in Manila (she & her husband Alan have been writing many of the stories on the hijacking).

Accompanying the story is a large photo of police superintendent Orlando Yebra holding up “the misspelt manual he has compiled,” according to the caption. You can clearly read the title of the white publication Yebra holds up to the camera: “Proposed Hostage NEGATIATION Manual” (my caps).

These folks need your assistance!

Isabel

My reply to Isabel:

What a shame! I could have helped with the copyediting of their manual had they asked me, but now it’s too late!
