a new things? or new things?
« on: August 26, 2016, 06:13:06 AM »
Hi Joe,

Someone wrote this on facebook.

"Come out to your shell and discover a new things."

Is this correct?

This is  my guess below?

"Come out from your shell and discover new things."

I replaced 'to' with 'from'
And removed 'a'
Am I correct?

Thanks.

If you saw my grammar is wrong, then correct me if I'm wrong. This is why I'm here to learn English.

It should be "Come out OF your shell and discover new things."

It's and idiomatic expression.

I am both: a teacher and a language enthusiast. ☺

I can't see any problem in using "from" but it sounds strange to my ears. if I were you, I would stick to the preposition used in the idiomatic expression so as not to stir an argument and be frowned upon. ☺

Let's wait for sir Joe. He may be able to shed light on this usage. ☺

@Michael
An English teacher right?, please confirm.

If yes, then that's really nice.

Me, I'm just an enthusiast but English is now my new addiction.

Yes! ☺

Before I joined the BPO industry, I used to be a public school English teacher. ☺

It's great to know that you find the English Language interesting.

Honestly, when I was still a student, I didn't dream of becoming an English teacher. My dream then was to become a science teacher or a nurse. However, I had this very good professor in college who encouraged me to study English as my specialization.

From then thereon, I started  studying the English language. Bereft of English teachers who were well - versed on the subject, I had to learn the language on my own. My only recourse was our library's  old and dilapidated books. During my time the internet wasn't that too popular in our place. ☺
