When a lover takes liberties with his English
« on: May 12, 2018, 10:38:05 PM »
A Facebook fiend of mine, Odette Dequito-Javier, sent this very interesting grammar question today, May 12, 2018, to the Forum's Facebook Gateway via Messenger:

Hi Sir Jose Carillo! I just want to ask something sana. About the correct usage of the words "We are pregnant" (in the parenting poster below). Is this really grammatically acceptable?

My reply to Odette:

I think the statement "We are pregnant" in that poster is a very private and intimate play of words that may not resonate well publicly. It's clear that the man has taken extreme liberties with his English that border on nonsense, forgivable perhaps among the two lovers themselves but awful from the standpoint of logic, grammar, and semantics.

Rejoinder from Odette via Messenger:

Thank you, sir Jose, for taking time out to answer my query. Mabuhay po kayo!
