A very dear friend of mine, former newspaper journalist and corporate communications executive Carlos Llorin Jr., sent me this sad news about his eldest sister, Dr. Necita Llorin-Roa, a practicing anesthesiologist in the United States for almost 50 years:

Dr. Necita Llorin-Roa, M.D.
March 20, 1944 - May 27, 2018

Dr. Necita Llorin-Roa, M.D., a former anesthesiologist in St. Louis, Missouri, died of natural causes Sunday, May 27, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri. She was 74.

Dr. Roa was a practicing anesthesiologist in St. Louis for almost 50 years. After graduating from the University of the Philippines Manila College of Medicine in 1969, she completed her anesthesia residency and fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in 1973-1974.

An Associate Professor of Anesthesiology who served on the faculty of Washington University for 42 years, Dr. Roa was a renowned educator and clinician. She generously endowed the Necita Roa Award for the best graduating anesthesiology resident as well as a fund to support global health programs for anesthesiology trainees.

Since 2014, Dr. Roa was president of the Philippine Medical Association of the Greater St. Louis Medical Foundation Inc., leading six annual medical and surgical missions to underprivileged communities in her home country of the Philippines.

The widow of the late microbiologist Dr. Renan C. Roa who immigrated with her from the Philippines to the United States in 1969, Dr. Necita Roa is survived by her brother Carlos Llorin Jr., former newspaper journalist and retired San Miguel Corporation communications executive, and sister Marilu Arellano, former businesswoman who later joined her in St. Louis. She is also survived by her extended family in the United States and the Philippines.

Visitation will be 3:00 – 9:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the Ortman Stipanovich Funeral Home on 12444 Olive Boulevard, St. Louis, Missouri. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, June 1 at the St. Anselm Parish on 530 S. Mason Rd. St. Louis, Missouri (All times Central Standard Time).
