When should we use single quotations and double quotations?
« on: April 02, 2017, 08:01:16 PM »
Question by Kevin Roy on my Facebook Gateway to the Forum (March 29, 2017):

Mr. Carillo, could you explain when to distinctly use the single and double quotations in a sentence?  Thank you.

My reply to Kevin Roy:

There are two styles of punctuation for quoted material in English depending on whether you are using the American English Standard or the British English Standard. I have discussed the use of double quotes and single quotes in “The two styles of handling quoted material in English.” (http://tinyurl.com/lu7blvm). For the broader stylistic guidelines, you can read my more extensive discussion of the subject, “Lesson #13 – Dealing with Quotations and Attributions” (http://tinyurl.com/kqvnlly).
