"Unfriend" chosen as Oxford Word of the Year for 2009
« on: November 17, 2009, 11:38:33 AM »
A friend of mine, Ping Galang Jr., has just sent me a news link that says the verb "unfriend" had been chosen 2009 "Word of the Year" by the New Oxford American Dictionary, as in “I decided to unfriend my roommate on Facebook after we had a fight.” Read all about it by clicking the link that I'm providing below.

Over here, I've read/heard some people now saying, "defriend"...what next, mate?
or should I say, re-mate? ::) ;D  I think it means, not to be friends anymore???
Maybe we should start inventing our own words right here in the Forum, how about
it, Joe and Max? :'( ;D Come to think of it, why not, indeed?

I have coined a word recently when I posted an interesting article re Oprah Winfrey leaving her show in 2011...Well, I'd say that when people: 1)confess/articulate their emotions/reveal their souls/show their spoils/weep/cry/confide in top gear without shame/ and Miss Winfrey, a wonderful woman that she is and fabulously rich would listen/reply/hold their hand/squeeze their hand some more/hug/embrace/cry again/ weep again/clap at the same time/smile at the same time rhythmically in all sense and sundry-----the term is "Oprah-esque". Haayayayaayay. ;D :D ;) :'(

"Oprah-esque" is great, Hill, but I'd like to add two more. On the positive side, to reflect her mighty media clout, "oprahnistic"; and on the negative side, having unwittingly endorsed two fake autobiographies on her Ophrah Book Club and made them bestsellers, "oprahvity." ::)

Cleavitis - women who are obsessed with showing (off) their cleavage, especially celebrities
As in: Pamela Anderson has cleavitis.

vicheelistic - a woman who never stops wearing high heels, wherever she goes, even when she's shopping with small kids, going to a park, a grocery, or any dangerous surface that she could tread
on, for as long as she's in high heels. Victoria Beckham is the number one wearer of high heels, no matter where she goes, hence, affixing her name to this new word.

Example:

She is vicheelistic to the extreme. (both adjective and noun, depending on usage, right, Joe?) ??? ::) ;D :)
