This week I am recommending for your reading three highly provocative articles about humankind. The first article is about the finding of a team of scientists that human beings glow, emitting a visible light in extremely small quantities at levels that rise and fall with the day. The second article is about the pathbreaking research undertaken by an award-winning journalist and an anthropologist in Africa to answer this question: What made our prehuman ancestors come down from the trees and become master cooperators, accumulating knowledge at such a rapid rate and manipulating tools to colonize almost every corner of the planet? And the third article reviews two books, one on kindness and the other on being good—two hallmarks of human beings that are believed to make them unique among the animals.
