Hello,

Please observe the sentence below.

"We are at the hospital to visit a friend who is in the hospital."


What is the difference between "at the hospital" and "in the hospital"?

Not much really except in the English standard or habitual usage by the speaker or writer. Both "at the hospital" and "in the hospital" are grammatically correct, even if some pedants insist that "in" or "at" is the strictly correct usage.
